Harnessing Independence and Empowerment

Welcome to Year 12 GROWTH Pastoral Care Program: Harnessing Independence and Empowerment

Year 12 is a time of independence and empowerment — a time when young people begin to take greater responsibility for their choices, build the confidence to navigate new challenges, and prepare for life beyond school. This year focuses on mastering independence — developing the skills, mindset, and strategies to thrive in your final year and beyond. Together, we’ll focus on taking charge of your future, managing new responsibilities, and making a meaningful impact in your personal and professional life.

Across the year, students will:

  • Reflect on what independence means and identify daily strategies to strengthen self-reliance, laying the foundation for confident, independent living.
  • Learn practical strategies to balance responsibilities effectively, including tools for time management, prioritisation, and maintaining productivity without burnout.
  • Develop and practise clear and professional communication techniques for both personal and professional settings, including active listening and constructive feedback.
  • Build problem-solving and critical thinking skills using structured frameworks like the IDEAL model to analyse challenges and create effective solutions.
  • Develop habits and strategies to take personal accountability for actions and outcomes, fostering growth, trust, and resilience.
  • Use the DECIDE model to make thoughtful, confident decisions and effectively evaluate their outcomes.
  • Manage the transition to increased independence and responsibility, building resilience when navigating new challenges.
  • Reflect on personal growth, identify key milestones, and set clear short- and long-term SMART goals to support the ongoing journey toward independence.

Let’s lay a strong foundation for your final year by focusing on independence and personal growth!
