Openness and Responsibility

Welcome to Year 9 GROWTH Pastoral Care Program: Openness and Responsibility

Year 9 is a pivotal stage in adolescence — a time when young people begin to think more critically about the world around them, take greater ownership of their choices, and step into a growing sense of independence. This program is designed to support students as they navigate these shifts with integrity, self-awareness, and confidence. Each lesson encourages honest reflection, builds ethical thinking, and develops the practical skills needed to manage the increasing demands of teenage life.

Across the year, students will:

  • Understand what responsibility truly means and how accountability strengthens trust in every relationship.
  • Develop the independence to manage their commitments, set priorities, and follow through on goals.
  • Explore ethical decision-making frameworks that help them act with integrity, even when it’s difficult.
  • Embrace diversity and inclusion, recognising the value of different perspectives and experiences.
  • Navigate real teenage challenges with resilience, critical thinking, and sound judgement.
  • Build responsible digital citizenship skills for navigating online spaces with care and confidence.

With practical activities, honest discussions, and structured reflection, the Year 9 program empowers students to become more self-reliant, open-minded, and accountable — both in school and in the wider world.
